            What is the Medicines List?

 

The updated Malta Medicines List is a list of medicinal products which are licensed by the Medicines Authority to be placed on the market in Malta.  Through the Malta Medicines List, you may:

The list includes products licensed nationally through all routes of authorisation: marketing authorisations, authorisations in line with regulation 4(2) of the Medicines (Marketing Authorisation) Regulations and parallel import licenses and products which are authorised by the European Commission and can be marketed in all Member Sates.

All authorised medicinal products are given an authorisation number (column G of the Malta Medicines List).  The number given depends on the route of authorisation:  

  • National marketing authorisations: MAXXX/YYYZZ. 
  • Medicinal products authorised in line with regulation 4(2) of the Medicines (Marketing Authorisation) Regulations (in accordance with article 126(a) of Directive 2001/83/EC): AAXXX/YYYZZ. 
  • Parallel import licences: PIXXX/YYYZZ.
